Program Sandwiched In at Williamson Library The winds of adventure will blow during the Friends of the Williamson Public Library's 'Program Sandwiched In' on April 16 when Captain Jean Taber shares her stories of sailing tall ships and others on the waters of New York State and beyond. An optional lunch may be reserved by calling 589.2048 by 8 p.m. Monday. Capt. Taber, of Williamson, is a USCG Master for vessels up to 100 tons. She's served as crew and captain for several voyages of tall ships through the Erie Canal. In 2005, she helped transport the 137-foot schooner Denis Sullivan in its journey from Miami to Lake Ontario. With 10 sails and three masts reaching up to 95, the ship serves as a floating classroom, teaching Great Lakes history, ecology and seamanship. The Erie Canal cut 1200 miles from its trip but to navigate the canal with a tall ship was a real challenge which included removing its masts to get under bridges. Landlubbers can share the adventure with Capt. Taber in the librarys Community Room at noon for the program, which is free. Copyright
