Middle School students Newark Middle School students have had their creative literary works showcased in the annual Merry-Go-Round Playhouse Echoes literary program the school participates in. Excerpts from poetry submissions by eight grader Jenna Howell (My Hands) and (The Pen) by seventh grader Hannah Rothpearl were performed during the Echoes presentation in March. Echoes program players sing, recite and act out with music they write based on student-submitted stories, poems and other creative literary works. Howell and Rothpearl, who last year received plaques for submissions deemed excellent, won other awards as well this year. Howell received three honorable mention certificates for her work and three participation certificates. Rothpearl received a plaque for one of her works that was deemed excellent and one honorable mention certificate. Other NMS students who received honorable mention certificates were: sixth grader Maranda Fowler; seventh grader Amanda McNinch; and seventh grader Kendra Bush (2). Seventh grader Alison Hoe received a participation certificate. The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse Echoes program is coordinated each year in the Newark school district by Bobbi Clifford, Arts-In-Education coordinator. English supervisor Sue Van Tyle arranged to have students submit works into the Echoes program.
