WTCC student wins Vanguard Award At the Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators (ACTEA) Conference, Wayne Technical and Career Center (WTCC) Metal Trades/Motorsports Fabrication senior Amber Daniels, Sodus, was a recipient of the Vanguard Student Recognition Award. Pictured behind Amber Daniels are Dale Daniels, Jim Claypool and Leonard Hall, Metal Trades/Motorsports Fabrication Instructors. The Vanguard Award recognizes outstanding secondary and postsecondary level students who are enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that are non-traditional for their gender. The award includes a certificate and public recognition of the students as role models for others considering non-traditional careers. Eligible students were nominated by faculty and staff of secondary and postsecondary non-traditional CTE programs throughout New York State. Of those nominated, four high school students were selected from 29 finalists to receive the Vanguard Award. Her graduation plan includes a career as a Seabee in the United States Navy. The Seabees have supported world-wide combat and contingency operations since 1942, building advanced bases and conducting humanitarian recovery missions. Students in the Metal Trades/Motorsports Fabrication program learn both machining and welding skills. At WTCC, female students have a history of excelling in the Metal Trades/Motorsports Fabrication program and are encouraged to enroll.
