Program Monday on retaining ambulance crews

The EMS Committee of the Wayne County Rural Health Network is hosting a forum on strategies to recruit and retain members of volunteer ambulance crews, Monday, April 28, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn in Newark.

Roland Churchill, Director of the Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service, will be presenting tips and techniques that work to engage individuals who are interested in community service and to keep long-term volunteers.

The program is funded by a grant from the Office of Rural Health, NYS Department of Health, to Wayne County Rural Health Network located in Sodus. The grant supports increased access to health care and funds several different initiatives planned and implemented by the Network.

Call 483.3200 ASAP to register.

The EMS committee is made of various community partners and representatives, including: Jody Bender (Supervisor, Town of Marion), Jim Lee (Wayne County 911 Coordinator), Steve LeRoy (Supervisor, Town of Sodus), Bill Liddle (Wayne County EMS Coordinator), Jack Matthys (EMS Coordinator for Sodus Point), Penny Shockley (Director of Wayne County Aging & Youth), and Emilie Sisson (Coordinator, Wayne County Rural Health Network).

With long commutes and conflicting priorities for time, there are fewer volunteers than there were 10 years ago. Unfortunately, the demand for emergency medical services has increased and the need for volunteers is greater than ever before.
