Lyons youths put Faith in Action Young people from Lyons participated in a week-long service mission experience to help the residents of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Young people making the trip from Lyons were James Hansen, Darrell Sergent, Alexandra Russ, Alexis McUmber, April Vanderlinde, Meaghan Hansen, Becky Heid, Richelle Coons, Amber Clarke, Stephanie Heid and Matt Killips. Adult leaders accompanying the young people were Andy Sieling, and Dick and Kris Vanderlinde Early July, they participated in the Narragansett Bay Workcamp, sponsored by Group Workcamps of Loveland, Colorado. They repaired and painted family homes for elderly, low-income, and disabled people who were unable to afford or perform the work for themselves. They also built wheelchair ramps and repaired porches. Several hundred other young people and their adult leaders from locations throughout the United States and Canada, representing many denominations, also participated in the Narragansett Bay Camp. Through their work and programs during the week these young people gained a life-changing understanding about the true meaning of Loving Out Loud by serving, risking in their faith, practicing how love multiplies, forgives and lasts. They are planning to attend a workcamp next summer. A meeting is planned for Monday, Aug. 18, 7-9 p.m. at the Lyons Methodist Church. Participants must be entering 9th grade in fall 2009 and not be older than 21. Parents are asked to attend with their children to discuss where to go next summer, and to discuss fundraisers.
