Another big victory
for Finger Lakes Lakers

The Finger Lakes Lakers girls softball team finished league play at Midlakes this week, with a championship win in a best-of-three series.

Lakers met the Geneva Panthers, who pitched Bri Allen from Aquinas, Section 5 All-Star Player of the Year and First Team All State Pitcher. Allen allowed five hits - including a double from Liz Caspari (Jordan-Eldridge) followed by the game-winning RBI from Erica Peterson (Jordan-Eldridge).

Also putting singles in the books were Chelsea Houtenbrink (Waterloo) and Olivia Maddock (Lyons).

Liz Pieniazek (Geneva) pitched the two-hitter shut-out with nine strike-outs and one walk for the win.

Second game against the Panthers put Laura Maddock (Lyons) on the mound giving up only three hits for the win. Lakers' bats were hot with Christine Mosich (Penn Yan) going two for two with a double and RBI, and Pieniazek two for three with a double. MacKenzie Green (Marcus Whitman) singled and Caspari went two for two with a walk.

Claire Scheible made an amazing twisted-stretch put-out at first.

Final tournament play for the Lakers is August 9 and 10 at the Annual Plank Road Tournament in Cicero.
