Newark wins grant for sewer plant upgrade
By John Zornow

Newark Village officials were pleased Thursday to learn that they were successful in efforts to obtain a state grant for improvements in the 76-year-old sewer treatment system.

The Village of Newark will share in the latest round of grants announced this week by the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal totaling $54.3 million.

Newark will receive the requested amount of $600,000 for sewer improvements. The cost of the needed upgrades is estimated at $4.2 million.

The village is involved in a multi-year plan to upgrade pump stations, monitoring and controls, collection system improvements and elimination of an overflow at the Erie Canal, for which a consent order is pending.
