Nozzolio announces $1 million grant Senator Michael Nozzolio has secured a $1 million state investment for the expansion of Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. The funding was included in the 2008-2009 state budget.
The $1 million investment will be used to construct and furnish a new triage area and 'fast track station' for the Emergency Department Expansion Project. Annette Leahy, Hospital President, said, 'This funding is great news for the patients, staff and community served by Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. 'Because of the Senator's strong concern and commitment to the life-saving work we perform each and every day, we can ensure a brighter future for the hospital and the Newark-Wayne community.' At the ceremony are Michael Nozzolio, Annette Leahy, James Hoffman, County Supervisors Chairman, Evelyn Rice, Director of Surgical Services, Brad Simmons, M.D., Medical Staff President, Ralph Madeb, Director of Telehealth, Tim Johnson, VOW Foundation Chairman, Norm Brust, VOW Board Vice Chair. Newark-Wayne, serving since 1957, is the sole hospital providing emergency health services for Wayne County. Kathy Wydra, Chief Nursing Officer, said, 'As the only hospital in Wayne County and the provider of care to close to 20,000 people annually, our Emergency Department is vital the health care needs of people in the area. This funding will help provide the expansion and renovations necessary for high quality health care for these patients.'
