Clyde joins ACS
Relay for Life movement

Clyde is the second Wayne County community to join in the fight against cancer. In 2009, Clyde will unite with neighboring Palmyra, in hosting a American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.

The Relay For Life of Clyde is planned for July 2009 (Palmyra's event takes place the first weekend in June). An overnight event, Relay For Life is the largest grassroots fundraiser in the world and gives everyone an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.

Relay For Life opens as cancer survivors of all ages walk around the track for the first lap. This emotional time sets the stage for the importance of each participant's contribution.

A highlight is the luminaria service or candlelight vigil held at nightfall to honor cancer survivors and to remember those lost to cancer. The luminaria candles line the track and are left burning throughout the night as a reminder to participants the importance of their involvement in the Relay for Life event.

Relay For Life truly embodies the spirit of the American Cancer Society.

Clyde resident Sharon Rice helped bring Relay For Life to that village.

The Clyde Grange will be hosting an information night on Monday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. This information night will give those that attend an idea of how everyone can participate in this fight against cancer.

'Right now, we are really looking for help planning this first year event. You do not need to be a cancer survivor to help plan the event, just someone that care about the issue of cancer.
