Lakers do well at Plank Road
softball Tourney

Finger Lakes Lakers final play for the season was in the Plank Road Tournament in Cicero Aug. 9 and 10. The Lakers ended up co-champions of the tournament.

First game in pool play was against the Fabius-Pompey Falcons and the Lakers posted a 6-5 loss. Laura Maddock (Lyons) pitched the seven-inning game with 10 strikeouts and Erica Peterson (Jordan-Eldridge) had a diving catch at shortstop.

Christine Mosich (Penn Yan) had a single and double, Peterson had two singles and individual singles came from Morgan Rohring (Marcus Whitman), Chelsea Houtenbrink (Waterloo) and Maddock.

Second up for the Lakers was the Northern Explosion from Adams. On the mound, Liz Pieniazek (Geneva) got the win, 12-5 final score, with MacKenzie Green (Marcus Whitman) pitching an inning for the save.

Hitting star for the Lakers was Liz Pieniazek, who was 4 for 4 with four RBIs. Olivia Maddock (Lyons) singled twice.

Final game in pool play, the Lakers shut out the Utica Sluggers, 6-0. Pieniazek got the win, with Green saving again.

Combined the two pitchers had a no-hitter, and Olivia Maddock threw out a base stealer. Bats were hot with Green getting a single, Laura Maddock got a single and a double, Peterson had two singles and a double while Pieniazek had two singles and a double. Saturday's play put the Lakers in first seed for bracket play Sunday.

Battling rain delays Sunday, The Lakers won 7-1 in quarterfinals, sending the Cortland Firestix home. Laura Maddock got the win and hits went in the books from Rohring, a single and double; Peterson a double and Green with a great triple & RBI.

The Lakers met the Syracuse Storm in the semi-finals and posted a 5-1 win. Pieniazek got the win with 7 strikeouts and Olivia Maddock threw out a base stealer. Bats were hot with Mosich poking a long single and earning two RBIs, Peterson and Caspari both singled and doubled.

This series put the Lakers in the Championship game against the Syracuse Renegades with the Maddock pitching and catcher combo. Hitting safely were Olivia Maddock, Mosich, Houtenbrink and Pieniazek with RBI's from Houtenbrink, Rohring and Mosich. Game was called in the third inning due to poor weather conditions and
