RPO concert December 4 at Newark High

The Newark Chamber of Commerce and the Newark School district have teamed up to bring the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra to town to perform at Newark High School December 4 at 7:30 p.m.

'The Chamber's support of an artistic event of this caliber is a great holiday gift. We are very pleased to help to bring the RPO holiday concert to the area that we know so many people look forward to and enjoy,' said Dave Tyler, Community Bank retail services officer, who is the chairman of the Chamber committee planning the concert. The RPO concert will nicely cap off the Reliant Holiday Spirit Week in our community.'

The school district will provide the high school auditorium for the event and shuttle bus service from the Woodlane Community Church parking lot so people wont have to walk great distances to their cars.

Ticket prices will be $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and for students and are sale at the Chamber office at 199 Van Buren Street between 10 and 2 p.m. weekdays; at the Newark Wegmans customer service desk; and at Community Bank.

Wegmans is again a generous supporter of this event.

Newark High School music department boosters will hold a pasta dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria before the concert again this year. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children aged 12 to 5. Children aged 4 and under can eat for free. Tickets can be purchased at the Wegmans service desk or the Chamber office.

The auditorium doors will open at 7:25 p.m. for the concert. All concert goers will be asked to sit in the gymnasium until RPO staff open the doors.

Newark High School Jazz Ensemble will be performing holiday music in the gym during that time. Concert goers who'd like to top off the evening with dessert with family and friends will be able to do so at candlelit tables in the school. Hot fudge brownie sundaes, with a holiday flair, will be sold for $2 and beverages - coffee, tea, water or hot cocoa - will be sold for $1. Proceeds will also benefit the NHS music department boosters. Persons who purchase dessert will have their names put in a raffle drawing that will take place during the after-concert dessert time.

Four holiday RPO CDs will be given away in the drawing. Winners must be present to win. Anyone with questions may call Dave Schwind at 332.3200, ext. #2251.
