Park Church Mission Festival December 6

This year, begin a new holiday tradition with us at Park Presbyterian Church, Newark. On Saturday, December 6 the community is invited to a 'Mission Festival and Alternative Holiday Market.' This day long event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is presented by the church Festival Committee.

An Alternative Holiday Market will be held in the lobby area. Instead of giving more things, give more meaning this year. Honor friends and family with gifts to charitable organizations. You will have an opportunity to meet with representatives and learn more about Church World Service, Heifer International, Living Waters for the World, and Shelter Box. Donations in any amount will be accepted and you will receive a donor card.

A Greater Gift/SERRV International will be set up in the lounge, offering 'hope and justice with every purchase.' SERRV's mission is to promote social and economic progress of people in developing regions of the world by marketing their handcrafts and food in a just and direct manner.

Items for sale include baskets, table linens, purses, teapots, nativity sets, Christmas ornaments, as well as fair trade coffees and teas. Women's bean project soups and mixes will also be available.

Visit our dining room for the Festival Market. Park Church Quilter's Circle will be selling raffle tickets for the 2008 'Thimbleberries Village Quilt' as well as a variety of quilts and quilted items. This beautiful queen size quilt in various colors was pieced and quilted this year by members of the Quilter's Circle, which meets on Thursday evenings at the church. Fresh evergreen holiday wreaths, delicious baked goods, and cheese balls made by our youth will also be for sale.

Our Green Team will present an Eco-Educational Outreach with a display from Peacework Farms and others.

At 11 a.m. Della Ludwig, of Port Gibson, will speak about her Kenyan educational project. A free will offering will go towards this mission.

A Mission Fest Luncheon will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. offering foods from all of the areas where Park's people provide mission service. A $6 ticket permits two entrees, salad, beverage and dessert. Come and savor enchiladas and salad from Mexico, West Virginia style chicken and biscuit, seafood gumbo from Maryland, Dominican rice and beans and apple desserts from the United States.

Get a seat in the sanctuary at 2 p.m. for hand-clappin', foot-stompin' music provided by 'Common Ground.' This Bluegrass Gospel band from the United Church of Canandaigua will provide an afternoon of music and smiles. Tickets $2, 10 and under free.

The luncheon and concert will benefit the Park Church mission partnership with Iglesia Nacional Presbiteriana A.R. 'Sinai' Congregacion in Limones, Mexico. For tickets contact Park Presbyterian Church, Newark, 315.331.6999. For more information contact Linda Werts, 331.6999 or lwerts@ao1.com.
