The Auxiliary was founded in 1959 at the encouragement of Dr. B.A.Watson. Margaret Griswold served as the first president of the 34 member Auxiliary. Today, there are more than 80 members of the Auxiliary, who are advocates, fundraisers and supporters of the hospital on a daily basis. All past and present Auxiliary members are invited on Thursday, Jan. 26 to share in a cake and ice cream social. In addition, a number of events are planned for the week of Jan. 26, as well as throughout the year, in order to recognize the ongoing and outstanding contributions of the Auxiliary and its members. Auxiliary members will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 28 to officially open the new south entrance of the hospital. This new entrance offers patients direct access to outpatient services and physician offices located in the new 23,000-square-foot addition completed this fall. In 2008, the Auxiliary hosted a successful garden tour in the village of Clifton Springs to kick off its three- year commitment to raise $30,000 for the hospitals gastroenterology department. In addition to their philanthropic work for the hospital, Auxiliary members make up the majority of the volunteers at the hospitals main information desk. The Auxiliary also sponsors events like blood pressure screenings, senior health programs, community blood drives, health fairs, child car seat inspections and child fingerprinting and identification events, completed in cooperation with the Ontario County Sheriffs Department. In 2006 and 2007, the Auxiliary was awarded the Auxiliary Advocacy Recognition Certificate by the Healthcare Association of New York State.
