Don't trash that analog TV: recycle it

NEWARK: Anticipating the switchover to digital broadcast format in February many consumers will be opting to replace their analog televisions, rather than switching to satellite/cable service or purchasing a signal converter box. Nationwide, this could result in millions of televisions being left at the curb, with the next stop being the landfill. Instead of contributing to the trash problem, join with the Newark Park Presbyterian Church Green Team and recycle that old television.

The third annual Park Church Earth Day E-Waste and More electronic waste recycling event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at the East Avenue parking lot adjacent to Park Church and the Alex Eligh Community Center. Held in partnership with Maven Technologies, LLC, this event is responsible for keeping thousands of pounds of obsolete, discarded, broken and scrapped electronics from ending up in the wrong placelandfills, roadside ditches and fields, not to mention helping to clear the clutter out of basements and garages.

Items being accepted at this event include televisions of all kinds and much more. Additional details will be available as the event draws nearer. Sorry, curbside pickup is not available. Unloading at the event site is provided.

There will be a $5 charge for each television and/or monitor, with half the proceeds used to support Green Team events and initiatives. All other equipment is free. For more information, call 331-7424 or (585) 738- 4073 and ask for Scott.
