Brownie Scout troop of the month

Brownie troop of the month

NEWARK — Brownie Scout Troop No. 81 has been selected troop of the month. The troop is a new troop consisting of eleven girls plus leader Janet Pellicano and assistant leader Amy Knapp. They are working in Brownie Quest books, discovering themselves and their values, connecting with others and taking action to improve their communities and the world.

The troop meets twice a month and completes community service projects every month. Additionally, the troop has worked on three Try-It Badges. To help in the completion of a safety badge, Tammy Hand of Newark brought an ambulance to a troop meeting, led the troop on a tour of the ambulance and talked about safety.

While attending a lock-in at the Alex Eligh Community Center, the troop made new friends, decorated pumpkins, performed aerobics and ate pizza. They also donated canned food items to the local food pantry.

The troop marched in the Veteran’s Day parade Nov. 11 and carried a banner they had made.

When selling cookies, they learned about selling to the public, using good manners, setting goals and working with money.

The village Christmas tree in the foyer of the municipal building was decorated by this troop.
