Parties, fishing, curling, skiing in Wayne

There is plenty to keep you out and about in Wayne County this winter.

February brings the Gala Snowflake Ball (Feb. 9) at Waypoint Fine Food & Spirits. This is a fundraiser for Cracker Box Palace, a farm animal haven.

Captain Jack Captain Jack's Restaurant in Sodus Point will be the location for the Chili Blues Family Fest on Feb. 17 from 1 to 6 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Great Sodus Bay Association and features a chili contest, BBQ buffet, winter games (weather permitting), raffles, activities and music. For information call 483.6391 or visit

The Village of Palmyra will host the annual Curling on the Canal on February 24. Curling is a sport played on ice between two teams.

Fishing is available on the surrounding bays provided the ice is thick enough. You may want to check out the Fishing Update on our website at

Wayne County has numerous snowmobile trails that are open to the public. Call us for a free trail map or contact your local snowmobile club. (Our map has been updated for 2008)

Montezuma Audubon Center is hosting Hot Cocoa and Snow Series, Home School Nature Series and Bird-of-the-Month Series. Take advantage of what winter offers the Montezuma Wetlands Complex and join Audubon staff for family outdoor nature programs and a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Pre-registration requested. Snowshoeing at the Montezuma Audubon Center - Come get your heart pumping and your legs working while snowshoeing through the snow covered wonderland surrounding the Montezuma Audubon Center.

The Center has snowshoes available to rent for yourself, family, scout group, or outdoors club. The shoes fit anyone from 80 to 240 pounds and are available during the Center's open hours. Fee: $5/adult, $3/for children (12 and under) and $3/for any member of the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.
