Marbletown residents have mixed reviews Arcadia residents, many attending to voice opinions on 'public water,' saw town government in action at Tuesday's monthly meeting. 'Public water requests' was an agenda item, but scheduled later in the meeting. Several residents arrived early making comments about water (outside the meeting room), but they failed to stay for the 'water' agenda item. One of the final steps in a plan by Silver Hill Associates to build 'The Terrace at Newark,' an assisted living community, was a to approve a dry sewer district for the property. A dry district does not involve the expenditure of funds by the town. There were no comments or questions by residents and the board, in three separate resolutions, accepted the district that will be paid for by property owner Silver Hill Associates. Water requests - About 25 citizens were at the meeting to talk about water. Town Supervisor Dick Colacino had, at his own expense, run ads encouraging residents to get involved and attend this meeting. Some attended the meeting to declare that they didn't need nor want, and could not afford public water. Mary Ellen Fagner of Marbletown Rd. has a good water supply and reminded the board that many residents are elderly, and public water was too expensive. Dawn Mason of Brumm Rd. and Deb McCormick of Old Lyons Rd. were adamant in their desire to have water lines. 'We were told two years ago that we could have water, ' said McCormick, who says her house is deteriorating and many dollars are being spent on water softener salt. Mason says she was promised water 12 years ago. Dave Doyle of MRB Group, engineer for the town on water districts, was there to answer questions. 'Digging the trenches and installing the lines is the easy part,' said Doyle, who revealed that 'the easy projects are done.' Doyle explained to residents the details and factors of planning new districts, and that density of homes and rising costs are now major considerations. He also explained details of income levels needed to qualify for funding from Small Cities and Rural Development. Water District 11, which encompasses portions of Brumm, Hartnagel, Sutton, Miller and Blue Cut Roads, is now awaiting funding, with a projected 2009 start date. Two SW Water District meetings are upcoming. February 27 at 7 p.m. the Town Board will hold an informational meeting, and on March 20, a SW Non-Benefit Residents meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Call the Town office (331.1222) for details and location. Sandhill Road resident Terry DeVries said, 'I got public water and am very happy. I am saving money on insurance. It was the best $2500 I ever spent.' He received a round of applause.
