Meet Monday in Lyons to become a mentor

Wayne County Action Program (WCAP) announces new programs that will provide services for adult individuals deemed homeless. In conjunction with the opening of a new transitional housing residence, WCAP sees the need to help build mentoring relationships between the residents and the community.

A meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 25 at the Family Education Center, 28 Canal Street, Lyons, from 4 to 6.

The program will match a mentor with a resident, helping them to achieve goals and successfully re-enter the community.

Mentors will be recruited through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service and administered locally by WCAP. RSVP participants must be 55 and older. All potential mentors will be provided initial and ongoing training opportunities and support. This program is looking for a volunteer who would like to take on leadership responsibilities. This mentoring relationship requires a commitment of six months.

If you are interested in volunteering, learning more, or contributing in any way, please attend. Mentor roles, rules and responsibilities will be reviewed. A formal, in-depth training will be held at a future time.

To register to attend the meeting, contact Donna Johnson, 946.1259 or email donna.johnson@waynecap.org
