Agencies win United Way grants

The United Way of Wayne County has approved mini-grants totaling $20,822 to support special projects at 30 not-for-profit agencies. The grants, which range from $500 to $2500, will go to support initiatives that otherwise may not have been possible.

Agencies that received grants include:

  • Candy Apple Children's Center received $2500 for playground resurfacing
  • Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance - $2500 for defibrillator monitors
  • Red Creek Volunteer Ambulance - $2500 for a stair chair
  • Ontario Volunteer Emergency Squad - $2500 for advanced life support training aids
  • Wolcott Area Volunteer Ambulance - $2500 for stair chair
  • Home Meal Service received $898 for delivery baskets, electric skillet, new printer
  • Palmyra-Macedon Food Pantry - $550 for new freezer
  • Victim Resource Center - $2500 for security enhancements
  • Family Counseling of the Finger Lakes - $879 for a lap-top computer
  • FLACRA - $995 for DVDs and workbooks

An allocations team meets to decide which agencies are awarded the grants, based on the impact the request would have on the community.

The mini-grant application process is open to 501c3 human service organizations that serve residents of Wayne County.
