Newark gymnast wins medals in Arizona Third grader Alexandra (Ali) House, age 8, of Newark, a member of the Eagle gymnastics level 5 team (Canandaigua), won the 3rd place all-around in the level 5 Jr. category at the Hard Rock Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona. Ali competed along with 1500 other gymnasts from 75 gyms in 30 states, at the competition which was held at the Convention Center in downtown Phoenix. Ali also took the first place in uneven bars and the third place in floor exercise. She finished fourth on the beam and sixth on vault. Her all-around score was 35.625 Teammate Elizabeth Stephany, 12, of Honeoye, took first place all-around in the level 5 Sr. category with a score of 35.725. The Eagles level 5 team captured first place with an all-around score of 106.325. For their first-place win the team took home an original Fender electric guitar courtesy of the Hard Rock Cafe and a cash prize. Coach John Roth, who has been coaching gymnastics for 30 years, stated that this is one of the most special groups of kids that he has ever coached. Copyright
