Clyde gets money Congressman Jim Walsh visited Clyde to bring $392,000 in federal funding for downtown lighting and other streetscape improvements. 'The Village of Clyde is like so many wonderful communities throughout Upstate New York,' said Walsh. 'It's blessed with historic architecture, a village square, water access, and proximity to numerous recreational activities. Enhancing these assets not only preserves our historic character, but is a key to improving our quality of life and fostering economic opportunities.' The village was incorporated in 1835, and like many of the communities in Upstate New York, its roots go back to the Erie Canal, which provided the initial means for industry to become a force behind the village's early growth. Clyde is committed to recognizing the character of both the canal and the 19th century downtown for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. Mayor Roxanne Kise said, 'With the money, our village is getting a facelift that we have needed for quite a long time. Our village is extremely beautiful. We are able to offer a unique historic downtown with safe neighborhoods with affordable housing. Clyde has a wonderful weekly farmers market with an antique car show once a month during the spring, summer and fall. Little by little we are adding additional improvements to our community that will not only attract families to raise their children here, but also create a wonderful backdrop for continued economic growth. This money from Congressman Walsh has come at an exciting time. Truly this money will go a long way to improving the quality of life for everyone who lives and visits our picturesque village.'
