Apply soon for ag tax exemption

NYS Agricultural District Law provides for a partial real property tax exemption to landowners who produce agricultural products or who rent land to a producer.

State law also mandates that the local Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) prepares Soil Group Worksheets for all Wayne County parcels that qualify.

The District will accept applications through February 15.

If you have had a change in parcel acreage since your last application, you are encouraged to re-apply. If you are unsure whether or not you are receiving this partial exemption, check with your local assessor. There are also provisions for commercial horse boarding and new orchard and vineyard lands.

If you have retired an orchard and have planted non-fruit bearing trees, you are encouraged to check your exemption status. Minimum acreage is seven acres used for agricultural production during the previous two years. Other qualifications apply.

There is a $20 processing fee for each Soil Group Worksheet (parcel) that is requested. Worksheets will be completed on a first come first serve basis. The SWCD is encouraging applicants to file early and not to wait until the deadline approaches.
