Fox Sisters program Jan. 28 in Clyde

Chris Davis of Newark-Arcadia Historical Society will present the program for the Galen Historical Society's Quarterly Meeting on January 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting is open to the public.

The documentary (48 mins.) is entitled Spiritualism: The Fox Sisters, and is produced by Reel Time Images of Toronto, Canada. It was filmed in 2005 in the Newark area, NYC, and Victoria, BC.

It was aired on Canadian TV in Nov. 2006 on the series 'Enigma.'

Three from the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society appear on the film, portraying the Fox Sisters as they did on our Cemetery Walk (10/05): Pat Gorthy, Karen Vanderbrook and Rita Weiler (Karen and Rita are real sisters). They also filmed Spiritualist minister Cosy Allen of Michigan at the Hydesville site.

Modern Spiritualism was founded by the Fox Sisters, Kate & Maggie, on March 31, 1848, in Hydesville, outside of Newark.

Davis will give an introduction and will take questions and comments after; as well as bring some photos and books.

The film deals with the founding of the Spiritualist Movement, the life of the Fox Sisters (whose brother David lived in Arcadia his whole life), as well as where the religion is today. There's a Spiritualist church in Newark - (Angel Heart Chapel) - in Cannery Row Mall, off Route 31.
