Holograms chosen for County Museum
Executive Director of the Museum, Larry Ann Evans, traveled to NYC to meet with the hologram maker, Jason Sapan in his studio, Holographic Studios. Sapan's professional career in the field began in 1968 demonstrating holography at an exhibition called 'A Science Tune In,' for Time, Inc. The exhibition was created and run by Bell Laboratories. This was the first public exhibition of holography in America. Sapan is known for his pioneering use of laser lighting. In 1977, he created the opening logo for the CBS Sports Spectacular. He produced laser lighting effects at Studio 54 in New York City and his work was featured on television shows. Clients have included Mobil Oil, Hewlett Packard, Arista Records, and The Philadelphia Stock Market have commissioned his laser shows. Sapan has created holographic portraits of many famous people such as Pop Artist, Andy Warhol; Designer, Pierre Cardin; Former President, Bill Clinton; Former Prime Minister, Edward Heath; Economist, John Kenneth Galbraith; and Science Fiction Writer, Isaac Asimov among others. At Holographic Studios, Sapan showed Evans one of the holograms they had discussed on the phone. The 3D holographic image is of two soldiers in the Vietnam War sitting in a helicopter, and Sapan will produce one for the Museum to hang in the Military Room.
'I was stunned,' said Evans. 'The hologram on the wall was almost perfect for the museum, it had the rope which looked like the one that might have hanged William Fee in the North Side Jail, it had the Sheriff's badge, the old skeleton key, all it needed was a picture of Oliver Curtis Perry, and I would have brought it home!' Sapan offered to come to the Museum in Lyons to see if he could design something unique to the site. Sapan will be using actual artifacts from the museum to create the holographic image. The Historical Society's Museum of Wayne County History is located at 21 Butternut Street. For more information, call 946.4943 or check out the website, www.waynehistory.org Copyright
