Hotchkiss Essential Oil Building
open house
Saturday

An Open House will be held at the Lyons Heritage Society on July 12, from 10 to 4 at the Hotchkiss Essential Oil Building on Water St.

Tours of this unique building will be given throughout the day. This business was known all over the world for pure 'Hotchkiss Essential Oils.'

H.G. Hotchkiss brought fame to Lyons as 'The Peppermint King.' Many farmers in the county grew and sold peppermint to Hotchkiss, who also owned a number of peppermint fields.

Lyons Heritage Society will have a new exhibit showcasing donations from Lyons residents and from the estates of Phyllis Mood Wells (granddaughter of Emma Rise Rudd) and Betsy Foster Matecki.

Another exhibit includes items on loan from the Lyons Fire department. Memorabilia from the 1800's and early 1900's will be displayed along with pictures of some of the village's most famous fires.
