Happenings Bri Raes was named an Honorable Mention All-Greater Rochester softball team member. Congratulations! Bill and Barb DeWandel had the fun and pleasure of spending the week with their 4 grandsons, last week. They are Kirk and Kyle Cody from Webster and Aidan and Brian Ballesty of Marion. Mornings were taken up with Vacation Bible School at the Second Reformed Church and afternoons and evenings filled with adventures. In the United States, grass lawns cover between twenty million and thirty million acres of land. A homeowner spends, on average, over forty hours each year mowing the lawn. Paul and Sue Devlin entertained the family on the Fourth of July. We arrived at 11 a.m. for the 'fried dough,' which we consumed until we couldn't hold anymore! During the afternoon, there was lots of splashing in the pool by the young folks, along with lots of screams and shouts. Late afternoon brought out the hots, and sausages, with salads, pies and the kids favorite, 'lemon blossoms'. Games and conversations filled in other times. JULY 14, 1888 - A new chandelier with ten lamps has been placed in the Congregational Church. July 13, 1912 - The corner lot owned by Robert Murphy has been sold to Father Hartley, of Palmyra, for a site for a Catholic Church to be built in this town. This is the same lot on which Mr. Murphy proposed to build a hitching barn, this spring before he purchased the Brewster property on Buffalo Street on which he is now building. THANKS ! to those who frequent the Marion Public Library and donated all the food gifts for the Marion Food Pantry. It is much appreciated!! John and Eileen Ballesty had a busy and fun-filled '4th' with their children and grandchildren coming for the day. They enjoyed being together, had the opportunity to swim at the home of son, John and Jane's and were treated to a summer buffet of picnic dishes. Brian and Jill Adriaansen and boys, Craig and Derek, spent a long weekend with Grandma and Grandpa Schneckenburger at Southwick Beach, swimming and getting a nice bronze tan. JoAnn Meaker of Ontario will speak at Books, ETC., West Main St., Macedon on July 13 at 4 p.m. Meaker has been a resident of Ontario for 26 years and has come to love its rich history. Meaker learned about local history in order to develop curriculum for her gifted and talented students and to satisfy her own curiosity. She is also the archivist and docent for the 10 -building Heritage Square Museum owned by the historical society. 'Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.'
