Barn fire Sunday night on Leach Road

Leach Road fire

The Lyons Fire Department has been busy recently, responding to barn fires. Sunday night again required the dedicated LFD volunteers to fight a barn fire, this time on Leach Road, just before 10 p.m.

Fire Chief Chuck Witt advised that his firefighters were on the scene within minutes of the call.

The structure, owned by the Wolf family, was already fully involved when firefighters arrived. The barn was used mainly to store bales of hay, owned by the Gansz family.

The Gansz family lost their barn to a fire this spring, also quite an inferno, and they had just finished baling the hay and putting it in storage two weeks ago.

Following the barn fire on Maryland Road last week, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department has started an investigation. According to Chief Witt, the Leach Road fire is labeled 'suspicious' and is under investigation.
