County Board adopts Local Law A short session of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors today included a public hearing regarding a local law to approve allocation of zone lands for Project Blackhawk in the Town of Galen. On the line are 68 new jobs and retention of 215 jobs when the project comes to fruition. Steve Groat, Galen Town Supervisor, called the area's excellent pool of labor 'a plus' for the expansion. 'General Electric Co. left the Clyde area in 1966 and tough times followed,' said Groat. Recognizing the project as 'regionally significant,' the board members were quick to adopt the change in Empire Zone boundaries, and requested that the NYS Commissioner of Economic Development concur so that the project can move ahead. Peg Churchill, of the Wayne county Industrial Development Agency cautioned that today's approval was 'part of a puzzle' and one step towards the expansion of a local business. In other business, board members approved an emergency request by the Sheriff's Department to authorize the transfer and expenditure of $8650 to replace two magnetometers used to screen visitors to the jail. The current equipment has broken down and parts are no longer available. The next scheduled meeting of the Board is Tuesday, August 19, at 9 a.m. Copyright
