Newark boys win Class A
Newark track coach Joe Contario's boys have won the Class A Sectional title. The team members rode in cars through the village Wednesday afternoon, with fire and police escort, to celebrate the accomplishment. At the meet last Friday at Aquinas, Newark finished with 77 points, staying ahead of Honeoye Falls-Lima which had 70 points. Newark trailed Pittsford Mendon by two points with two events - triple jump and the pole vault - to go. Needing three points to win, Ykeem Overstreet finished third in the triple jump, Ollie Smith was fourth and Billy Callahan was sixth. The trio piled up 11 points to push Newark to the top. Erich Monaco added insurance points with a fourth-place spot in the pole vault. Smith was second in the long jump at 21 feet seven inches. Billy Callahan and Breiten Balschmiter put up personal bests to claim individual championships, with Callahan clearing six feet six to win the high jump. Breiten got a personal best in the shot put, at 48 feet three inches. A.J. Williams was third in the 400 meter dash in :50.70. In the 1600 meter run, Seth LaTray was third at 4:31.96. In the 3200 meter run, Brandon Cowles was fifth in 9:56.34. In the 3000 meter steeplechase LaTray was fourth (9:58.94). Newark's 4x100 relay team placed fourth: running were Smith, Overstreet, Callahan and Williams. The 4x400 relay team finished second, and the Reds were second in the 4x800 relay. Copyright
