Happenings Class of 1948 has reunion. School friends from the class of '48 met for brunch at the Quality Inn in Newark, on May 25. Those unable to attend sent letters which were read by Earl DeWispelaere. Favors, created by Beverly Weeks, graced the tables and were distributed to those who answered a questionnaire. Plans are being made for another meeting in two years. June 12, grades 7-12 - Music Department Awards Night - 7:30 p.m. in the High School auditorium. Two seniors from Marion, Meghan Estochen and Lydia Hussey, are on the Hope College (Michigan) Dean's List. Hope College is a four-year, coed, liberal arts college with an enrollment of 3226 men and women and is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America. Congratulations! to Hannah Joy Lawliss, who graduated from the University of Rochester on May 18, receiving a B A in History with a Minor in Italian. Hannah is the daughter of Lisa Gleason and Barry Lawliss and the granddaughter of Joanne and Clarence Lawliss and of Joyce Cantwell. A letter to the MARION ENTERPRISE in July 1921, from Myra M. Sanford - To one who has been absent from the village most of time for thirty years the evidence of her vision, her courage, her accomplishment, is most striking. One remembers when it was simply 'The Corners,' just south of the 'Upper Corners.' When the two streets crossing at right needed no other defining name. New witness the great change: beautiful homes, paved streets, electric lights, a sewer system, a high school, the pride of Marion, chartered by the State, with enlarged and competent faculty, show another example of Marion enterprise. The beloved old brick 'Institute' still stands, dear for old times' sake but one might part with it almost cheerfully if it might become a fit and worthy accompaniment of other and present buildings which mark our village as a place beautiful. The village abounds in examples of the enterprise of its people. Witness its beautiful churches, the fine bank with its simple and consistent architecture, its factories, its fine new fire department building, housing a protector which adds greatly to the safety and content of the people. Within these walls is the 'Marion library and rest-room' one of the strongest and most valuable evidences of that enterprise which places our village alongside the prosperous villages of our State. This means that she shall not lag behind in intelligence and power of 'uplift,' to the value of which the people are rapidly becoming aroused. Surely, its interests seem of vital importance to our village and we wish it long life and posterity. MYRA M. SANFORD My advice: Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same day. I am so sad. Last Sunday was the final service at St. Gregory's Catholic Church of Marion. This church dedicated in 1914 and has been comfort and good neighbor during the 55 years we have lived across the street. Blessings and condolences to the members and friends of this congregation.
