Festivals in Newark, June 13-14-15

Big Dog Country 103.5fm will be presenting the Downtown Hoedown at the Newark Family Festival on Saturday, June 14 sponsored by the Wayne ARC.

Newark Family Festival - produced in cooperation with the Village of Newark - is sponsored by Wegmans.

The Downtown Hoedown will kick off with Colgate Country Showdown winner Kate Lee with 'No Strings Attached' performing on the Main St. sound stage from 4:30 to 6:30.

Then from 7-9 p.m., country favorite Flint Creek takes the stage. A giant fireworks display over the Erie Canal, from T. Spencer Knight Park, follows the concert.

15-year-old Lee is a singer-songwriter, fiddler from Webster. Her band blends heartfelt vocals with powerful acoustic instrumentals. Her second CD, On Your Way was released in March.

'No Strings Attached' will be touring nationally and will perform at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in August.

The Newark Family Festival, June 13, 14, and 15 will feature entertainment all weekend; the Rose Parade on Saturday followed by the Duck Race and a huge fireworks display Saturday night, the St. Michaels Family Festival, the Market Alternatives Run for the Red 5K race, over 100 arts & crafts and food booths and much more.

The Parish Festival is open 5-10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 Saturday, noon to 3:30 Sunday. In addition to rides, games, prizes and a cake wheel, there is a chicken BBQ Sunday, Spanish food Friday night (rice, chicken and empanadillas), homemade desserts and more.

Tickets are being sold for the Chevrolet raffle, made possible by Mike Barnard Dealership in Newark.

June 14 is Flag Day, and there will be a ceremony that afternoon in T. Spencer Knight Park on the Erie Canal.
