Senator Michael Nozzolio honored the Science Olympiad Team from Red Creek High School in Albany today for winning the Best Small School Award for the third consecutive year at the New York State Science Olympiad Competition. The competition was held at West Point Military Academy this past March.

'A strong education in science and technology helps to ensure that these students will achieve success in the 21st Century economy,' said Nozzolio.

'These tremendous students are to be commended for their interest in science and for their excellence at the Science Olympiad Competition. For the third year in a row, they have proven their commitment and dedication to the study of science.'

The Red Creek team qualified for the State Science Olympiad at West Point after placing fifth out of 34 central New York schools at the Regional Competition at LeMoyne College in February.

The members of the team are: Jesse Cramer, Kevin Dates, Spencer Bills, Nick Schwartz, Eric Stevens, Steven Sholes, Josh Misso, and Matthew Treby; Stephanie Grant, Caitlin Casler, Olivia Pitts, Stephanie Fralick, Allison Sheldon, Lindsey Johnson, Chelsea Craine, and Elizabeth Grant.

David Sholes, Superintendent of the Red Creek Central School District, said, 'These students worked hard all year and fully deserve their success. It has been an exciting visit to Albany and I thank Senator Nozzolio for recognizing the accomplishments of these dedicated students.'

The Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of science education, increasing students interest in science, and creating a technologically literate workforce.
