Catch the reading bug at the library Are the kids hot and bored? Are parents yearning for some peace and quiet? Well, don't let the summer doldrums BUG you. Go to the Williamson Free Public Library and Catch the Reading Bug! As a participating library in the New York State Summer Reading Program, the Williamson Free Public Library has a calendar packed with excitement for all ages. Children's Specialist Michelle Byrne combines great performers, educational activities and a reading game complete with wonderful prizes to encourage children to keep those reading skills sharp during a summer full of fun. Events planned include a Creepy and Freaky Creatures show, In Jest Comedy Variety show, tie-dying, cooking, bug-hunting, movies, crafts and lots of opportunities to enjoy new books. Registration begins June 30. Young Adult Specialist Kristen Johnson, using the New York State summer theme for teens, Metamorphosis, has her own calendar of activities for young adults. Her online blog Fine Print Forum on the teen page of the Williamson library's web site (www.williamson.pls-net.org) offers a great opportunity for young people to keep up with things just for them. There are great prizes for reading, and what can be better than curling up in a cool spot with a brand new book? The Firefly concert series is new at the library this summer. During July, a variety of entertainment will be offered on Wednesday nights on the librarys patio. Come, bring a lawn chair, and listen to great music from 7 to 8 while the sun sets behind you and twinkling lights flicker in the trees. On July 9, Emily Kaye will play her own brand of country music. On July 16, Its My Party will entertain by bringing the 60s girl band back to life. Perry Plyter, Tim Chaapel and their musical accomplices will mellow out with cool jazz on July 23 and The Blue Mule Band will close out the series on July 30 with romp-stomping bluegrass. The concerts are free and if it rains, they will be held in the Community Room. Copyright
