North Rose work campers going to Kentucky in August A team of 24 teenagers and six adult leaders is making plans to travel to Frakes, Kentucky in August to make home repairs in an impoverished area of Appalachia. The group, representing the North Rose United Methodist Church, will be staying at Henderson Settlement. Henderson is part of the Red Bird Mission Conference of the Methodist Church. Frakes is in southeastern Kentucky, near the Tennessee border, where the discontinuance of coal mining has left the area with a high rate of unemployment. Henderson Settlement provides a dormitory and dining facilities for work campers during the summer and coordinates home repair activities. Work campers are required to pay for their accommodations during the week and also to send money to buy materials used in construction. This will be the seventh team from North Rose to go to Henderson since 2000. Each participant is asked to contribute $200 to the cost of the trip. The balance is raised through donations and fundraisers. The final fundraising event will be a barn sale at Smith's barn, 9404 Ridge Road, July 10-12. Copyright
