Highly respected as one of the top coaches in the area, Newark boys basketball Head Coach Ron Ceravolo was named Section 5 Class A Coach of the Year. (Photo by Jim Miranda) 'When a coach is selected to be recognized by his peers it is a special honor,' said Ceravolo. 'The honor comes from knowing that the people who selected you , truly understand the commitment, dedication, and sacrifices that are made to be successful. Any recognition that a coach receives is shared by the players on his team, and his entire coaching staff.' The coach praised his staff of Bob Havrilla, Tim Tanea, Chris Hager, Jim Miranda, Terry Burgess and Henry Kuperus. 'These men form an outstanding team that is committed to helping our players improve and carrying the tradition of the Newark basketball program,' said the coach. Ceravolo also won the 'Coach of the Year' award in 1989, 1991 and 1997. Ceravolo just completed his 22nd year as Newark's varsity coach. His teams have compiled a 389 and 108 record under his leadership. In 22 years, the Reds have won 14 league championships and four Section 5 crowns. This season, the Reds had an outstanding 22-1 record. Copyright
