WC Bar Association helps communities

The Wayne County Bar Association has been showing its spirit by participating in recent community events.

Late in 2007, the Bar Association members collected hats, scarves and mittens at their local meetings. The results were two large boxes which were donated to the local Wayne County Head Start program in January of this year. The Bar again stepped out as it assisted children through the Red Cross Christmas program.

The Bar sponsored a team for the Rotary Adult Spelling Bee Challenge at Eastview Mall in February. The Bar team of Tracey Fox, John Porter and Tyson Blue showed its knowledge not only of the law but of the English language when the team won the gold against the other 20 teams with the final correct spelling of the word 'Depurate.'

The Spelling Bee raised over $4000 for the Wayne County Literacy Volunteer program.

The Bar is working with Literacy Volunteers to put together plain English packets to help individuals understand how to file petitions in the Court, what Court procedures are and how Courts are run. These packets, and assistance, will be in English and Spanish, and should be available soon.
