By John Zornow

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors were invited Tuesday to inspect the new Wayne County Sheriff's Mobile Command Center. Sheriff Dick Pisciotti and Undersheriff Rick House were on hand to point out the many features of the new equipment.

The trailer was bought with federal Homeland Security funds. No county tax monies were used.

Totally self contained, the center will have the ability to handle any crisis in the county, capable of tying in to any radio frequency, broadband, Wi-Fi, as well as the video system of the Ginna power plant, and all schools in the county. Also in display was a new Wayne County Sheriff's Patrol car, complete with new logos and a black and white color scheme.

'We are looking at what is best for Wayne County,' said George Bastedo, Director of Wayne County Emergency Management, as he gave a presentation on a plan by the Public Service Commission to rework telephone area codes in the current 315 area. Bastedo described options available and encouraged the Board of Supervisors to support a resolution recommending Geographic Split Option 3, an option that will have the least amount of impact on Wayne County. Option 3 will allow Wayne County residents who have a 315 area code to continue and not have to dial more than seven digits. Other plans would divide the county east/west, and require callers to dial 11 digits within their area code. The Supervisors voted to support the resolution.
