Visit Marbletown School Saturday

It's school-visit time again, and the Marbletown Schoolhouse is decked out and ready to greet the fourth graders from Kelley School this June.

These visits afford the school children a chance to experience rural school life in a one-room building, that housed many grade levels, and was 'home' away from home for students long ago, who learned their lessons from just one teacher!

Kelley school children will participate in an old-fashioned Spelling Bee, do cemetery rubbings at the Sweed Rd. Cemetery, listen to story-telling, and participate in games such as 'Spud', Cats Cradle, and Sack Races.

This is the fifth year that the 4th graders have visited Marbletown since it was adopted by the Kelley School in 2004.

They'll be open starting Saturday, May 24. The Marbletown School House will be open for visitors from 1-3 p.m. every Saturday until September.

Meet the teacher, 'Norma Jan,' who presides over the classroom - lined with the desks and seats that were a part of the school before it closed in 1947. The library features original school texts, maps and memorabilia.
