Pre-Trial Services honors Barry Virts

Trey Lockhart with Chief Deputy Barry VirtsWayne County Pre-Trial Services presented the Heather Valentine Award to Chief Deputy Barry Virts, of the Wayne County Office of Sheriff at a luncheon on October 31.

The award identifies a person who's made significant contributions to the success of Wayne Pre-Trial programs. Pre-Trial Services Board of Directors has recognized Chief Deputy Virts for his enthusiastic support of the agency's programming, particularly Pre-Trial Release and Enhanced Pre-Trial Release.

The agency recognizes Virts for commitments in collaborating, coordinating and partnering with a variety of Wayne County community-based agencies, both within the jail and in the community.

Chief Deputy Virts has been a member of the Office of Sheriff since 1977, serving as a Correction Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigator, Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigation Unit and since 1999 has been Chief Administrative Officer of the jail facility.

Previous Heather Valentine Award recipients are: Lynne Kerwin and Sharon Benjamin (previous Pre-Trial Board Presidents); Assemblyman Robert Oaks (previous Pre-Trial Board President and Director of the Youth Bureau); Billie Rae Walker (previous Director of the Youth Bureau).
