Pastor Donald and Judy White have had Judys parents, Thomas and Joanne Porter of Philadelphia, Pa., as house guests. Since there was solid ice on the bird bath on Monday, we have added the electric heater, so that our feathered friends can stop by for a bath. The dull thing about going the straight and narrow path is that you so seldom meet anybody you know. (Heavenly Humor) In 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson mixed soda water powder to drink, but left it on the back porch overnight with a stir stick in it. It froze solid and the epsicle was born. (Swedish proverb) Boy, do I miss our grocery store. Now, I need lima beans for my heritage stew. I have just received my 2008 holiday catalog from Vander Veens Dutch Store. Let me know if you would like to borrow it for your Christmas goodies. Dec. 4, 1941 Marion triumphed over Savannah in the first league game of the 1941-1942 basketball season. Marion was in the lead through the entire game. Harold Cook was high scorer with 14 points, followed by Gerald Petty and Morris Schoonerman. Few things are more disillusioning than learning that Grandmas old family recipe came from Betty Crocker. The Marion German Club will host its third annual Breakfast with Santa 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Marion Public Library Community Room. The club will serve pancakes, eggs, sausage, applesauce, apple juice and coffee. There will be crafts for the children, and parents are encouraged to bring cameras to take pictures with Santa. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. They can be purchased from any club member or by contacting Melanie Cummings at 926-7021 or melanie.cummings@att.net. Tickets will also be available from the Marion Elementary School from Phyllis Stock and at the Marion High School from Shelly Thompson. The club is also sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair on the following dates: 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4; 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 6; noon to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8.
