Lyons Heritage Society to hold open house

The Lyons Heritage Society will hold an Open House on Sunday, December 7 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Hotchkiss Essential Oil Building on Water Street in Lyons. A warm welcome awaits you as you participate in the Holiday Open Houses sponsored by the museums of Wayne County.

Docents will be giving tours of this unique building throughout the afternoon. This business was known all over the world for pure "Hotchkiss Essential Oils". H.G. Hotchkiss brought fame to Lyons as "the Peppermint King". Many farmers throughout the county grew and sold peppermint to Mr. Hotchkiss. He also owned a number of peppermint fields.

Lyons Heritage Society will have a new exhibit showcasing many recent donations from Lyons residents and also from the estates of Phyllis Moody Wells (granddaughter of Emma Rice Rudd) and Betsy Foster Matecki.

Refreshments will be served and there will be a drawing for a basket of enticing goodies.
