'Golf is what men do to relax when they are too tired to mow the lawn.'

On Sunday, I was giving a program at the museum in Auburn ,,, and there in the front row were Hank and Pearl Ververs from Marion. How nice to see familiar faces in the audience!

The Fire Department auction will be held Saturday, October 4 beginning at 10 a.m. at the firehouse. The Ladies Auxiliary will be selling coffee and doughnuts and lunch will be available. The auction will be handled by Van's Auction Service and will feature all kinds of donated articles such as Marion home grown produce, fresh baked goods and an array of other goods.

If you have items to donate but are unable to get them to the firehouse, please call 926.4341. Items should be in good salable condition.

If you do not have anything to donate, a monetary contribution would also be accepted. Send your check to Marion Fire Dept., P.O. Box 1, Marion 14505.

October 3 - 4:30 - 7 p.m. Homestyle turkey dinner at Marion Masonic Temple. Full menu $8 adults, $4 children ages 6-12, under 5 years free. Sponsored by Richards Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

October 3, 1940: Third Grade News - Last week in our science corner we had several animals. Betty Dean brought her rabbit. Lois Ganze brought her little 'Skeezix,' Lucille DeBoerder brought her kitten, Mr. Reynolds brought us a baby garden snake, and Robert Mander brought his dove. We have several toads and caterpillars in our room, caught on the school grounds. The Kindergarten came to see the animals one afternoon.

September 26, 1957: Student Association Winners at Marion Central School were: President Earl DeWispelaere, Vice President Richard Derr, Secretary Lorraine DeWispelaere, and Treasurer Robert Sheahen.

Sept. 27, 1894: There is much competition going on among the barbers in Marion. Current prices are 10 cents for a cut and 5 cents for a shave.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Museum will be open from 2 to 4. The topic of the opening is 'An Apple A Day.' Stop by for refreshments.

The Fire Department will hold its monthly Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, October 12, from 8 to noon. This is a full service breakfast consisting of eggs, cooked to order, bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast, toast, home fries, coffee, tea, milk and juices. The cost is $4 for children 5-12 years and $6 for adults. Children under 5 are free.
