Pie festival Thursday at Cooperative Extension Celebrate Cornell Cooperative Extension Week and National 4-H Week on Oct. 9, from 3- 6 p.m. at the office on Route 88 North, Newark. A highlight is the apple pie contest. Beth Claypoole, Executive Director and Ag Issues Leader for Cornell Cooperative Extension Wayne County reports that Wayne County is the largest apple county in NYS and the second largest apple county in the United States. More than $40 million of apples are produced each year in this county. If you have questions, call at 331.8415. Your homemade pies will be accepted up to 5:15, with celebrity tasting starting at 5:30. Pie samples will be available after judging is finished. Other events at Apple Fest include: crafts for kids, energy savings bike demonstration, taste testing apple recipes, apple variety samples, lost of apple cider will be available! Copyright
