'Fools' on stage at Newark High this weekend

Fools, a light-hearted romantic Neil Simon comedy, will be presented by the Newark Drama Club at Newark High School October 10-12. Director Steve Duprey said he chose this play because its hilarious and he likes Neil Simons work.

Set in the small village of Kulyenchikov, Ukraine (Russian Territory), during the late 1800s, it is the job of a young schoolteacher to try to break the curse of stupidity thats been on the village and everyone in it for 200 years.

The cast includes: Leon Stephonovitch Tolchinsky, played by NHS senior Colin Burgess; Sophia Zubritsky, played by junior Kaleigh Fremouw; Gregor Yousekevitch, played by senior Ryan Ford; Dr, Zubritsky, played by senior Evan VanKouwenberg; Lenya Zubritsky, played by junior Mallory Walton; Snetsky, played by senior Tyler VanHall; Mishkin, played by senior Chris Martin; Slovitch, played by senior Aaron LaTray; Yenchna, played by senior Kendall Main; The Magistrate, played by senior Alex Nassimos.

Also, Maria Walton and Sue Everdyke are in charge of costumes, and Rick Walton is in charge of set construction. Nick Gardner, a senior, is in charge of lighting. Anderson Miller, also a senior, is in charge of sound. Kelsey Adams, a sophomore, is the stage manager.

Fools will be presented Oot.10-11 at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6 at the door. Senior citizens Golden Passes will be honored.
