USDA Rural Development gives 'An improved quality of life' is what Arcadia Supervisor Dick Colacino described the major impact of recent funding for Arcadia Water District 10, a project that will provide Newark public water for more than 70 residents of the Skinner, Martin, Fairville Maple Ridge and Buffalo Road areas of the town, a partnership project for Town of Marion and Town of Arcadia. The $514,000 low-interest loan, coupled with a $132,000 grant, for a total of $646,000, will be used to install pipe for the new district. The award presentation took place Friday afternoon, in the Arcadia Courtroom, in a ceremony attended by local and state officials, along with Newark Mayor Peter Blandino. So far, Marion has completed seven water districts and Arcadia has completed nine. Attending the event was Patrick H. Brennan, NYS State Director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. Brennan outlined the goals of USDA Rural Development as helping rural communities provide clean, safe water for residents who have struggled with inadequate well water for years, and making the water affordable. Brennan praised Micky Sergent, Area Specialist/Team Leader at the Canandaigua office of NYS Rural Development, who attended the presentation. Sergent, a resident of Newark, will retire on January 1, after more than 38 years of service. Copyright
