Tennis player advances to state finals Newark senior Stacey Brooks advanced to the tennis State Qualifiers. Brooks, first singles player for the Newark Reds, helped lead her team to 13 team victories this season. She advanced in the 'Individual Sectional Competition' at the indoor courts of the Mid-town athletic club on Saturday. In her final in the playbacks, Brooks defeated Samantha Hemminger of Midlakes, 6-4 in the 1st set and 6-3 in the 3rd set. This win avenged an earlier season loss. Brooks became one of the top four in classes B & BB. The state qualifiers will be held Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. in the Mid-town Athletic Club. Senior Allison Minger also made it to the final round of Sectional playbacks Saturday, before losing a close final match, 5-7 and 2-6. Minger was a big factor in the team's outstanding season. She had nearly 20 individual wins. Senior Chelsie Hinckley and Sectional doubles partner sophomore Allison Wilck lost a tough match the round before the final Sectional playbacks. Hinckley & Wilck ended their events Oct. 22, with regular season and Sectionals wins totaling 20 victories each. Copyright
