Marion auctioneer retiring after 41 years

Lloyd Van Haneghem, life-long resident of Marion and founder of Van's Auction Service, is retiring after 41 years in the business.

His son in law, Steve Schutt, who has been running the business portion of the auctions as well as auctioneering since 1984, will still be holding all types of auctions just as he has in the past.

'Van' was first a dairy farmer during the 1940's, 50's and part of the 60's, he then sold the contents of the farm at auction, and this is where he 'caught the bug.' After a couple of years in construction and a job with the State, he attended Missouri Auction School. VanHaneghem started his business in 1967.

An Open House to celebrate his retirement will be held at The Bee Skep Cafe, North Main St. Marion, from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9.
