Dr. Medeiros will give program Wednesday Dr. Lori Medeiros, a surgeon at Newark-Wayne and Rochester General Hospitals, will be the keynote speaker at Burnham's Canalside at the Quality Inn in Newark on November 5 from 6-8 p.m. Her topic will be Breast Cancer: Improving the Odds. Registration is at 5:30 p.m.; dinner is at 6; the program starts at 7 p.m. The Dinner/Lecture Series programs are sponsored by Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, an affiliate of Rochester General Health System. In 2007, more that 178,000 women were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and more that 40,000 women died from the disease. It is the most common type of cancer among women today. If it is found early enough, the chance for survival is greatest and with some of the more recent treatments, a patient's odds improve significantly. Dr. Medeiros joined Newark-Wayne and Rochester General this summer. Dr. Medeiros earned her medical degree and residency training at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She is board certified in both the United States and Canada and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Effat Jehan, a Family Practice Physician at Rochester General Medical Group in Lyons, will talk about Staying Healthy Through Preventive Medicine on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Wayne Hills County Club in Lyons.
