Happenings This photo shows the PALMYRA-MARION ROAD, opening in September 1926: The spreading of concrete on the Palmyra-Marion highway was finished Monday and the road will be opened for traffic when the 21 days required for hardening the concrete are up. Already some have ventured to drive on the half of the road that has been finished for some time. The workmen returned to the paving of Main Street, as soon as their duties on the highway were over. Main Street has been a busy, noisy place this week. It is encouraging to see the work advance and when the paving and curbing are completed residents will realize that it has been worth all the trouble and inconvenience necessary for so great an improvement.
The Tierson family picnic was held at the Marion Town Park on Saturday, August 30. When Jerry and Priscilla Flack arrived to set up, they had a pleasant surprise. They were very impressed with the remodeled kitchen. Many family members remarked about how nice the kitchen looked. Many children enjoyed the playground while the adults visited. Everyone who attended had a good time on a gorgeous day. Howard and Ida Boise returned from Kalamazoo, Michigan, where they attended the 44-year reunion of the 14th Armored Division, in which Howard served in WWII. September 5, 1940: During the summer the school building has been thoroughly cleaned and some rooms have been redecorated! One of the major tasks was sanding and refinishing all the old student desks. Floors in all the rooms were cleaned and waxed and corridors received a coat of paint. 'A retired husband is a wife's full time job.' Most children reach the age of reason about the time parents lose theirs. September 2, 1926: Marion folks celebrating their centennial in spite of a lot of rain. Everywhere could be found reminders of those sterling pioneers, Henry Lovell, David Powell and Samuel Caldwell.
