Trail Works to dedicate Residents and visitors to Williamson can now walk to the public library or town hall, stop on Main Street for an errand, visit the Town Park or just meander through woods, farmland and village streets. This is because of the initiative of members and friends of Trail Works, working in cooperation with the Town of Williamson, Williamson School District and many supportive property owners. From their cooperative efforts has emerged a 4.2-mile loop that can be accessed from three parking areas as well as from both East and West Main Street. While mostly intended for foot traffic, this is a multi-use trail as those on bikes could also make use of some of the flat sections as well as the section through the Town Park. This new trail, the second in Williamson, has been in the works since a Williamson Trail Seminar took place in March 2004, coordinated by Trail Works, Inc. The format included a panel of successful regional and state trail advocates and experts. At the conclusion of the session attendees shared and marked maps with existing and potential trail routes in their respective neighborhoods. This provided the catalyst for what was to become the Williamson Town Loop Trail (TLT). A grant from the Genesee Land Trust helped with signage and generous donations from both Lowes and Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group (formerly Motts) provided materials. Members of Trail Works, Inc. supplied much of the labor and installation of signs, obtained permissions, while shepherding the vision into reality. The public is invited to a dedication and ribbon cutting on September 13 at 11 a.m. in the Town Park off Eddy Road. A hot dog lunch will be served following the ceremony and at 1 p.m. there will be guided hikes of varying distances on the trail. www.trailworks.org Copyright
